CALIFON, NJ—A 2.2-magnitude earthquake struck New Jersey early Wednesday morning, centered approximately 3.1 miles east of Califon in Hunterdon County. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at 1:44 a.m. and had a depth of 4.7 kilometers.
This seismic event is part of a series of tremors affecting the region since a notable 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit the area in April. Recent quakes in the vicinity include a 0.8 magnitude tremor on July 23 and a 1.2 magnitude event on July 20, all centered near Califon. These ongoing seismic activities have prompted local authorities and residents to remain vigilant.
No significant damage has been reported from the latest quake, though residents in nearby areas reported feeling the tremors.
