UTICA, NY—A series of distressing events led to the arrest of 43-year-old Antonio Lawrence from Utica, as confirmed by the Utica Police Department. Early on the morning of July 28, police were called to a domestic incident at a residence on the 1500 block of Seymour Ave, where a woman was reportedly assaulted.
According to police reports, the victim described how an argument with her ex-boyfriend, Lawrence, escalated when he wielded a kitchen knife, swinging it and cutting her in the neck. Fortunately, others present intervened, and Lawrence fled the scene. The victim’s injuries were serious but non-life-threatening.
Hours later, at around 8:00 AM, police returned to the same address following reports of a burglary. The suspect, identified as Lawrence, had allegedly entered through a kitchen window, wandered around the home, and stole a purse before exiting through the rear door.
An area check led officers to Hobart St, where they spotted a man matching Lawrence’s description. Upon attempting to stop him, Lawrence fled on foot, prompting a chase through nearby yards. He was eventually found hiding in a yard on Louisa St and was taken into custody.
Lawrence has been charged with assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, burglary in the second degree, and criminal tampering in the third degree.
