Ellendale, DE — The Delaware State Police have arrested 14-year-old Angelo Rodriguez of Millsboro, Delaware, for murder following a homicide that occurred in Ellendale last month.
On June 9, 2024, at approximately 4:30 PM, troopers responded to the 12000 block of North Old State Road for a shooting.
Upon arrival, they discovered that 17-year-old Ahniya Coverdale had been shot and taken to the Ellendale Fire Company. Coverdale was subsequently transported to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries. A second victim, a 19-year-old man, later arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit identified Angelo Rodriguez as the suspect. On July 22, 2024, Rodriguez was indicted by a Sussex County Grand Jury.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, detectives arrested Rodriguez. He was charged with the following crimes, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3, and committed to Stevenson House Detention Center on a $300,000 cash bond:
- Murder 1st Degree (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony) – 3 counts
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony) – 2 counts
- Assault 1st Degree (Felony)
- Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (Felony) – 8 counts
- Theft of a Firearm (Felony)
