Stafford County, VA – A 30-year-old Stafford man was arrested early Sunday morning after brandishing a firearm in an intoxicated state when he was unable to purchase alcohol.
On July 21, at approximately 12:49 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance at the 7-Eleven located at 2998 Richmond Highway. The caller reported that a clearly intoxicated driver had brandished a firearm inside the store. Deputies, using a vehicle description provided by the caller, located the suspect’s vehicle on Garrisonville Road and conducted a high-risk traffic stop near Wells Fargo at 131 Garrisonville Road.
During the stop, the driver refused commands, began stripping, and made derogatory comments towards deputies. Both the driver and passenger showed signs of intoxication and were eventually detained. Inside the vehicle, deputies found two firearms, one of which was concealed, and a nearly empty bottle of tequila. A DUI investigation was initiated as deputies returned to 7-Eleven to gather more information.
Store staff reported that the intoxicated driver had attempted to purchase alcohol but was refused due to the late hour. In response, the suspect began swinging his firearm around before leaving the store. While deputies were at 7-Eleven, another victim came forward stating that the suspect had also brandished a firearm at him in the parking lot.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
