NEW YORK, NY – On Tuesday morning, the NYPD arrested 29-year-old Boubacar Barry in connection with a fatal traffic incident that claimed the life of a teenager. The arrest took place at around 8:52 AM within the 111th Precinct.
Barry faces a series of charges, including Criminally Negligent Homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, and Assault with Criminal Negligence Causing Injury with a Weapon. Additional charges relate to multiple traffic violations including Motor Vehicle Failure to Yield to Pedestrian and Failure to Exercise Due Care.
The charges stem from an incident on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, when police responded to a 911 call around 3:26 PM about two pedestrians struck at 46-02 47 Avenue.
A 16-year-old girl was found deceased at the scene due to severe trauma, while an 8-year-old girl sustained minor injuries and was transported to New York Presbyterian Cornell Hospital in stable condition.
Investigations revealed that a 2016 Ford water delivery truck, driven by Barry, was making a left turn at the intersection when it struck the pedestrians who were crossing the street. The truck continued without stopping, later found abandoned nearby.
