CHICAGO, IL—A routine grocery trip turned into a life-changing moment for one lucky Illinois Lottery player who purchased a $2 million winning Powerball ticket. The ticket, bought for the Saturday, July 13 drawing, was sold at Foodsmart, a family-owned grocery store located at 3415 W. Diversey Ave. in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.
“We are so excited,” shared the owner of Foodsmart. “When I heard that we sold a $2 million winning Powerball ticket, I thought, ‘What a lucky day for somebody… and for us, too!’”
The winner, who remains unidentified, matched all five numbers and added the game’s ‘Power Play’ feature to double their prize to $2 million. The winning numbers for the July 13 drawing were 9-55-59-66-69, with a Powerball of 21.
Foodsmart’s owner expressed hope that the winner is one of their regular, loyal customers. “While we don’t know who won the $2 million prize, we have a feeling it’s one of our regulars who stops in often.”
This win marks the second significant lottery prize sold at Foodsmart within the past six months. Late last year, the store sold a $277,777 winning scratch-off ticket. The owner noted, “It seems to me like there’s some sort of luck going on at our location!”
For selling the winning ticket, Foodsmart will receive a bonus of one percent of the prize amount. The owner reminisced about the previous big winner, saying, “The customer who won the $277,777 prize was so ecstatic, and it was her first time in our store. She mentioned she was feeling lucky that day and bought a $5 scratch-off lottery ticket. We found out right away that she won – and she’s been coming back to our store ever since.”
