Four Arrested in Connection with Aggravated Robbery in Brownsville
Brownsville, TX – Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of an aggravated robbery on June 25 at approximately 9:55 p.m. The incident occurred in the 2300 block of Magdalena Avenue.
Deputies arrived to find that the victim had been robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint by two male suspects. One of the suspects held a handgun to the victim’s head and fired a shot into the ground to force compliance. The suspects then fled the scene with the victim’s cell phone. The suspects were later identified as Juan Carlos Macias and Brian Rodriguez. Macias was arrested on the day of the incident, while Rodriguez was apprehended on June 27.
On June 29, investigators discovered that the suspects had been hired by Angelica Reyes to steal the cell phone. Reyes reportedly wanted the phone because it contained evidence of her infidelities. She agreed to pay Rodriguez $100 for the theft. After the arrests of Rodriguez and Macias, Rodriguez’s sister, Jade Urenda, contacted Reyes to collect the payment, which Reyes subsequently paid.
Arrest warrants were issued for both Reyes and Urenda. They were both charged with Aggravated Robbery and Engaging in Organized Crime, both first-degree felonies.
