WEEHAWKEN, NJ – The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has filed additional charges against Luis Tubac-Socoy, a 25-year-old Passaic resident, following a motor vehicle crash in Weehawken on Friday, July 5. Tubac-Socoy is now facing three counts of aggravated assault, eight counts of endangering an injured victim, causing serious injury while driving unlicensed, and five counts of assault by auto.
Tubac-Socoy was arrested on Monday, July 15, at the Hudson County Correctional Facility where he has been detained since the incident. The crash occurred at approximately 9:50 PM at the intersection of Avenue at Port Imperial and Port Imperial Boulevard, where Tubac-Socoy allegedly struck a Honda CRV with his Ford F350, then fled the scene.
The collision resulted in serious injuries to two pedestrians from North Bergen and Florida, aged 78 and 70, respectively, and an 80-year-old passenger from the Honda. A third pedestrian and four other Honda occupants sustained minor injuries. Tubac-Socoy fled the scene on foot after hitting three pedestrians a short distance from the initial collision.
Following a preliminary investigation, Weehawken Police identified and arrested Tubac-Socoy. Initially, he faced charges including three counts of assault by auto and two counts of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury. Additional motor vehicle summonses were also issued.
