Upper Marlboro, MD — The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating a fatal shooting that took place on the evening of July 12, 2024, following a vigil at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School. The incident occurred around 10:05 PM in the school’s parking lot located in the unincorporated area of Upper Marlboro.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Shahid Omar Jr. from Upper Marlboro, was found with a gunshot wound and later pronounced dead at a hospital. Additionally, an adult female victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the incident.
In response to the shooting, a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment. The homicide detectives are actively seeking the suspect(s) and working to establish a motive for the crime.
