BUTLER, PA – The FBI said it was taking over the investigation of the attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump today. The agency however stopped short of calling it a shooting, or an assassination attempt in its public statement earlier tonight.
The FBI has assumed leadership of the federal investigation into the incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred earlier today in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Special agents from the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office responded immediately, including crisis response team members and evidence response technicians.
The FBI will fully support the investigation with all available resources, working in collaboration with the U.S. Secret Service and state and local law enforcement. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
FBI personnel are currently on the scene in Butler, continuing their joint efforts with the U.S. Secret Service as the investigation progresses.
