Carroll County, MD — Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a 42-year-old Carroll County man with arson following a suspicious fire on Friday. The incident, which occurred at 4:01 PM at 3154 Baltimore Boulevard in Finksburg, involved a commercial storage trailer fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of firefighters.
The fire, which brought 25 firefighters from the Reese Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding areas, was brought under control in 30 minutes. Damages are estimated at $1,000. The owner of the trailer was identified as Gary Watts.
Deputy State Fire Marshals from the North East Regional Office, along with Troopers from the Maryland State Police, conducted an origin and cause investigation. Security footage revealed a white male entering and exiting the trailer just before the fire. The individual was identified as Joseph Affayroux, who had been previously charged with trash fires and a dumpster fire earlier in the week.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Affayroux on charges of Second Degree Arson, Malicious Burning First Degree, and Malicious Destruction of Property. He was taken into custody by Troopers from the Westminster barrack and is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center without bond.
